Volunteers from the area inducted into roll of honor

    AUGUSTA — First Lady Ann LePage presided over the 28th annual presentation of the Governor’s Awards for Service and Volunteerism. At the ceremony, the names of 511 individuals that were inducted to the Volunteer Roll of Honor were on display. During the past year, each of these individuals contributed 500 hours or more to programs scattered from across Maine.

    Honored volunteers from the area are Abbot: Carole Tetrault with 758 hours and Kenneth Tetrault, 645. Brownville: Wade Gray, 1,917. Dexter: Pat Blend, 861; A. Joan Burgess, 1,784; Ross Goodwin, 1,460 and Willard Thompson, 1,234. Dover-Foxcroft; Anne Cress, 1,450; Robert Cress, 1,540 and Rose Ireland, 1,857.
    Garland: Terry Libby, 1,082. LaGrange: William Stineford, 2,173. Milo: Timothy Chapman, 637; Alan Jay, 701; Barbara Jay, 701; Peter Sereico, 803 and Gladys Wright, 2,144. Sebec: Larry Johnston, 693.
    The Governor’s Awards for Service and Volunteerism were established in 1986. The presentation ceremony is held at the Capitol each year during National Volunteer Week in April. The award program is managed for the Governor’s Office by the Maine Commission for Community Service.
