Dr. Evans introduces legislation to help with insurance enrollment
House District Rep. Richard Evans, D-Dover-Foxcroft has introduced legislation to ensure that uninsured Mainers become insured, LD 1390, “An Act to Maximize Healthcare Coverage for the Uninsured through Easy Enrollment in the MaineCare Program or in a Qualified Health Plan in the Marketplace.” Dr. Evans has been in consultation with officials in Colorado and Maryland who have similar practices in place. Individuals would check a box on their income tax form indicating that they are uninsured. The Department of Human Services would be required to reach out to the individual with MaineCare enrollment information and/or the Superintendent of Insurance is charged with providing information about available plans through the Maine Health Insurance Marketplace.
According to Dr. Evans, “My goal is for Maine to be more innovative and more proactive in addressing the plights of the uninsured, a problem that has been made worse by the pandemic for those already uninsured, as well as those who have lost their jobs and their job-related insurance. This bill would also identify people who may qualify for low cost or no cost coverage of which they may be completely unaware …… I think we should take every opportunity that we can to do the greatest good for the greatest number of Mainers.”
HEALTH CARE LEGISLATION — Rep. Dr. Richard Evans, D-Dover-Foxcroft at the Piscataquis County Ice Arena in Dover-Foxcroft as preparations were underway to become a vaccination site. Dr. Evans has introduced legislation to ensure that uninsured Mainers become insured.
