Veronica Ann Sweetser (Snowden)
LARGO, FL and ABBOT, ME – Veronica Ann Sweetser (Snowden), 66, died on January 20, 2013, in Largo, Fl. She was born March 5, 1946, in Dover-Foxcroft, ME, daughter of Fern (Ronco) and James C. Snowden.
Veronica graduated from Piscataquis Community High School in 1964 and worked at Davis Brother’s Furniture and The Gold Nugget Restaurant. She moved to Bangor and worked as the Director of Personnel at R.A. In-Flight at Bangor International Airport (BIA). It was here that Veronica had the opportunity to board the first 747 that flew into BIA.
She married Richard W. Sweetser and they moved out of the State of Maine and spent time in both Pennsylvania and Connecticut where Veronica focused on raising their two children. They returned to Maine and Veronica made the most memorable career decision as an owner and operator of the Town Line Drive-In in Abbot for seven years. Even 32 years later, customers still rave about the food that Veronica used to cook for them and the way she made them feel at home when they stopped in for a bite to eat. In 1979, Veronica began her career at Guilford Industries and worked her way up to becoming a Manager of Design Research.
Veronica pursued her secondary education for Textile Design and Research at the University of Maine, Clemson University, and Harvard University. In 1994, Veronica accepted a position at Carleton Woolen Mills in Winthrop, ME, as the Director of Design and Advanced Research and worked there for six years.
Veronica was very lucky to find love for a second time with Wayne LaBree and moved to Largo, Fla., where they enjoyed many years of companionship together and marrying on February 19, 2010. A theme throughout Veronica’s life was the comfort and enjoyment she found being near water whether that be at Whetstone Pond in Abbot or Indian Rocks Beach in Largo. She prided herself in being the first person to go for a “polar dip” after the ice went out on Whetstone Pond.
Veronica is survived by siblings, Brenda Brawn (Snowden), Christopher Snowden, and Craig Snowden; her son, Charles Sweetser of Wilmore, KY, and his wife, Anita and their three children, Leah, Lydia, and Abram; her daughter, Tracee Golet (Sweetser) of South Berwick, ME, and her husband, Walter and their two children, Gavin and Lily. Veronica would be a great-grandmother for the first time to a great-grandson, Tyler who is expected to be born in June to her grand-daughter, Leah Goforth. In addition to this, Veronica was blessed by the love and support of her close friends, Cesar, Amelia, and CJ Redaja.
Private celebrations of Veronica’s life will be held with family members at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Largo and at Whetstone Pond in Abbot, ME.
