Space available at trauma reduction training
By Erin Callaway
Registration is open for a training that teaches caring people how to use a powerful technique called Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) to help individuals address and resolve the after effects of difficult life challenges.
This four-day evidence-based trauma resolution workshop, co-sponsored with PVAEC, is being held at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. Certified TIR Facilitator and Trainer Cynthia Scott of the reFRESH Training Center in Guilford will lead the program. Scott is also a certified facilitator and trainer of a related technique called Life Stress Reduction (LSR).
The training runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on two consecutive weekends: Saturday and Sunday, February 22-23 and March 1-2.
Once trained anyone, laypersons and professionals alike, can use TIR to help others deal with life stresses such as divorce, illness, military deployments, and job changes. TIR can also be done with children and teens. A person does not need to hold an advanced degree to use the technique, which the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) endorses as a highly effective approach to trauma resolution.
During the 28-hour program participants will learn about the nature of trauma, the consequences of traumatic incidents, and how the TIR technique helps people quickly and permanently eliminate the after effects of traumatic experiences. The full list of workshop goals and objectives is available on the TIR Association’s website (www.tir.org). Continuing Education Hours are available to those that need them.
Limited scholarships are available for non-profits and groups. Send an email to scott.cynthiam@gmail.com or call 717-4506 to sign up or receive more information.
