Maine Whoopie Pie Festival postponed to Oct. 3   

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Citing the state plan to restart the economy and their own desire to ensure the well-being of all festival participants, the Center Theatre and Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce announced that the 2020 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival will be postponed until Saturday, Oct. 3. The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival typically brings 7,000 people together in Dover-Foxcroft to celebrate the taste of Maine’s Official State Treat, the whoopie pie.

“Like most others in the state, we have been very concerned with the COVID 19 pandemic and how it would affect activities this summer,” said Patrick Myers, the executive director of the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts and an organizer of the festival. “After reviewing the state’s framework for restarting the economy, it was unfortunately obvious that there would not be a safe way to hold the festival this summer. We decided to postpone the festival to Saturday, Oct. 3 in hopes that we would be able to come together at that time.”

The festival brings dozens of bakers, thousands of visitors and tens of thousands of whoopie pies together in Dover-Foxcroft to celebrate the taste of Maine’s Official State Treat, the whoopie pie. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 festival is being postponed until Saturday, Oct. 3.

Myers said that the Center Theatre and Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce would be working with bakers, vendors and contractors to coordinate around the new date. The festival plans to have different activities focusing on the new fall date including a pumpkin whoopie pie baking contest. 

The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival is a collaboration between the Center Theatre, Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce and several other organizations.
