FA finishes fifth at Noble Invitational
BERWICK — The Foxcroft Academy wrestling team joined squads from across Maine and three New England states at the 2013 Noble Invitational on Dec. 27. The Ponies placed fifth out of nearly 40 teams with a score of 142 points.
Corbyn Bruce won his weight class for Foxcroft. In the 220-pound championship finals, Bruce pinned Nat Beckwith of Winslow at the 2:58 mark to finish in first place.
A pair of Ponies came in second in their divisions. Brooks Law reached the championship finals at 145 pounds, falling by a 9-2 score to Kaleb Brown of Skowhegan, and at 160 pounds Todd Francis was pinned by Jackson Howarth of Marshwood of South Berwick at the 1:14 mark of their finals match.
Placing third for Foxcroft was Brandon Brock at 182 pounds. In the consolation finals Brock defeated Brian Jones of Camden Hills by a score of 2-0.
Antonio Ayala was fifth at 120 pounds for the Ponies. Ayala edged Mountain Valley’s Eathan Boucher in the fifth/sixth finals by a 4-1 margin.
Marshwood finished first in the team standings with 224 points. In second was Skowhegan at 202.5 points, third was Mountain Valley with 149.5 to earn the tie-breaker over the 149.5 also scored by host Noble.
On Jan. 3 Foxcroft traveled to Sanford High School to grapple in the Spartan Wrestling Tournament with teams across the state and New England. The Ponies scored 82 points to finish eighth out of 25 squads.
Bruce finished third at 220 pounds. In the consolation finals he defeated Andrew Moriarty of host Sanford by a score of 7-2.
Ayala reached the 120-pound consolation finals, falling by pin at the 4:15 mark to Cody Beaudette of Cumberland (R.I.). Also finishing fourth was Brock, who was pinned by Trevor Burns of Massabesic of Waterboro at the 1:56 mark of their 182-pound consolation finals match.
Two Foxcroft wrestlers came in sixth, Francis at 160 pounds and Michael Pendriss in the 170-pound division.
