Retired educators news
GREENVILLE — On Tuesday, Aug. 27 15 members and three guests of the Piscataquis County Retired Educators were treated to an absolutely scrumptious luncheon at DKB Catering in Greenville. Guest speaker was Sandra Ryder, Greenville resident and volunteer extraordinaire, speaking on issues that citizens in our area are facing as they age. Key issues included: lack of transportation if no longer driving, limited mobility and difficulty entering/exiting local businesses, safety at home, living alone, having medical information readily available in case of an emergency, staying active in the community, volunteering and maintaining ties with family and friends. It was noted that libraries are always great meeting places and our county has six very accessible libraries.
This group’s Day of Caring funds will be awarded to school nurses in each of the five elementary schools for nutritional needs.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 11:30 a.m. at the Red Maple Inn & Restaurant in Guilford where a silent auction will be held to benefit the scholarship program for local high school seniors. All retired educators are invited to attend.
