Low stress cattle handling workshop July 20
DOVER-FOXCROFT — A presentation and demonstration of low-stress cattle handling will be held at the Shaw Road Farm on Saturday, July 20 from noon to 3 pm. Dr. Colt Knight, UMaine Extension livestock specialist, will discuss the impact of handling cattle on their stress levels and participants will see Shaw Road Farm’s practices of separating beef animals from a herd of 50.
Ben and Fred Cookson will also discuss the changes they have made in their practices to be more effective in reducing long term and immediate stress on their herd as guided by Temple Grandin’s methods. Attendees will have an opportunity to see Shaw Road Farm mob grazing pasture management system and water delivery system on a pasture walk.
