Johndro’s memory will live on through contributions

MILO — The legacy of Jean Johndro, one of the founders of JSI Store Fixtures who passed away in November, will live on thanks in part to $50,000 worth of community contributions bestowed through her will. The $50,000 will be distributed to five organizations and these contributions were presented during a ceremony on the morning of Jan. 25 at the Milo Elementary School.

Johndro’s wish was to make donations to the community that she loved. The organizations that will benefit from her generosity include the Milo Elementary PTO, Milo Ecumenical Food Cupboard, Milo Recreation Department and Jean’s Backpack Blessings — a program providing students with backpacks full of nutritious foods which was renamed to honor Johndro — all were presented with $5,000 checks at the Jan. 25 presentation.

Another $30,000 was earmarked for scholarships benefiting Penquis Valley High school students. The scholarship program will award a $2,000 scholarship annually to a graduating student who exemplifies Johndro’s life of hard work, determination and overcoming obstacles.
