GFWC/Miosac Club holds spring tea
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)/Miosac Club met at Thayer Parkway April 16 for a spring tea. President Suzanne Raymond called the meeting to order. Vicki Moschella led the Club Collect, Americans Creed and Pledge of Allegiance. She then introduced Pam Pultz who spoke about “senior dogs.” Pultz has these pets and she says the dogs are very good to have for companionship and exercise.
The senior dogs are all trained and like to have a new safe home. This reduces the need to euthanize older dogs with no place to go. Club members found the presentation very interesting.
Recording Secretary Diane Leighton took roll call with 11 members answering with their favorite color. She then read the minutes of the last meeting with no corrections. Corresponding Secretary Roxy McGlauflin read a thank you note from Greta Schroeder of the Thompson Free Library for having her speak at a club meeting. Treasurer Pat Jones gave a report.

Brenda Quiet reported that the next meeting will be the annual meeting. Members are to being their dinner and desserts will be served.
Minnie McCormick noted that club news has been in the Piscataquis Observer and she will continue to report to them — the club appreciates this.
Anne Cress reported that all ice out tickets were in and ice was still on the lake.
McCormick said she would soon choose a day to plant the pinwheels, needing to check the ground first. The GFWC/Miosac Club has had 155 pinwheels donated for domestic violence/child abuse prevention awareness. Club members will only be using blue and white this year and about 35 were left from 2018. Prevent Child Abuse America is an International Project.
Brenda Quiet talked about the birthday dinner and passed out invitations. The club will be going to the Pleasant River Campground as members had such a good time there last year. The 2019 event is scheduled for May 22.
Raymond asked if the annual meeting could be changed as she will not be able to attend at the present date. Following some discussion, it was agreed the annual meeting will be May 14. Members are to bring their own dinner and dessert will be provided.
Discussion for the community dinner in June was discussed. Dave Leighton has volunteered to do the cooking and members will provide desserts — more about that later.
It was decided the club does not have enough funds for a year-end project as they have done in the past.
Raymond spoke about the women’s suffragist commemoration going on at GFWC headquarters in Washington, D.C. Following discussion it was voted to use the money from the traveling baskets and some members will contribute as well.
The meeting was adjourned and members eagerly participated in the spring tea. Mr. and Mrs. Bunny welcomed them to a beautifully decorated table with white lace tablecloth, tiny sandwiches and sweets on decorated serving dishes and a lovely tea pot — all provided by hostesses Jones and McCormick. Members brought their own tea cups, some antiques and all beautiful. A very nice way to end the business year.
