Piscataquis County youth career event & job fair April 25
DOVER-FOXCROFT — A career resource fair will be held at the Penquis Higher Education Center on Thursday, April 25 from 1-4 p.m. for youth to meet with local employers and apply for positions and possible on the spot interviews and also explore job training and higher educational opportunities available from Eastern Maine Community College and the University of Maine at Augusta. The fair is also open to the public and anyone seeking employment services or career services are encouraged to attend from 2-4 p.m. that day.
Maine is facing a shortage of skilled employees in conjunction with an ageing population. In addition, the number of high school graduates is continuing to decrease. Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC) and Eastern Maine Development Corporation (EMDC) are committed to being leaders in developing strategies to increase the number of available high skilled graduates to address workforce issues in rural areas of Maine.
Eastern Maine Community College and Eastern Maine Development Corporation are excited to provide an opportunity for local youth, ages 16-24, to attend a career readiness event and job fair at the Penquis Higher Education Center with the theme of aspiring to post-secondary training and/or employment. Young adults will be provided with the tools and opportunity to design and develop a resume, hear what employers are looking for when they hire, learn about tools for a successful interview and meet with potential employers in the region, as well as learn more about opportunities for job training and higher education. If anyone is in need of resume preparation services, prior to this event they may contact Theresa Mudgett of EMDC at 564-8196.
“Preparing high school students for this career fair with resume prep and interview techniques gives them the tools they need to find jobs that will keep them right here in Maine,” said EMDC’s Director of Workforce Services Susan Cerini. “Leveraging these partnerships to invest in our young people in the Penquis Region and beyond is the key to our programs.”
“Our youth are a critical component to a successful workforce of the region and for the future,” according to Deb Rountree, associate academic dean.
