GFWC/Miosac Club news
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)/Miosac Club met April 2 at Thayer Parkway. Diane and David Leighton presented an interesting program of their trip to Nashville and all the sights they saw, including Willie Nelson’s Road House, the Wall of Fame, car museum, Elvis’ car, the Parthenon and the “Smokey the and the Bandit” car and many more. Diane rode in Daisy Duke’s car.
President Suzanne Raymond called the meeting to order and Wendy Hutchins led the Club Collect, American’s Creed and Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Leighton took roll call with 13 members answering with their middle name. She then read the minutes of the last meeting with no corrections. Corresponding Secretary Roxy McGlauflin read a thank you note from Pine Tree Hospice thanking the club for its part in Trivia Night.
In the absence of Treasurer Pat Jones, Raymond gave the report.
Advisory Chairman Brenda Quiet advised the next meeting will be April 16 with Minnie McCormick and Jones as hostesses. Members were asked to bring a tea cup for a spring tea.
Hutchins spoke about the GFWC/Miosac scholarship. She then gave a report of the high school art contest, one of the pieces got an honorable mention at the district level.
Vicki Moschella gave a report of district meeting. noting all club presidents gave a report of their activities.
A reminder that all ice out tickets and money needed to be turned in to Anne Cress.
The community directory was mentioned and McGlauflin volunteered to chair this project. Members will be assigned businesses to contact for their ads during the summer
Raymond conducted an induction ceremony for new member Cathy Cody and pinned her with a club pin. Members are pleased that Cody has joined.
The GFWC/Miosac Club will be serving the community dinner June 3 at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church.
The pinwheel garden is on hold until more snow goes.
Members brought in coupons for military, box tops for schools and toothpaste and brushes for the food cupboard — next month will be tissues.
The meeting was adjourned and members enjoyed refreshments provided by Leighton and Hutchins.
At the April 16 meeting Pam Pultz will show her work with dogs. Moschella is program chairman.
