Free Sunday movie series starts Feb. 10

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Helping Hands with Heart (HHH), in partnership with Piscataquis County Economic Development Council (PCEDC) is pleased to announce the 2019 movie schedule. These films are part of the collaborative “Maine Highlands Investment Partnership” which seeks to improve opportunities for economic and human development in our rural region.

These films are free of charge and each will be shown at the Center Theatre on East Main Street at 2 p.m. The theatre will have its concession stand open for the obligatory popcorn, soft drinks and candy.

The first film “IN UTERO” on Sunday, Feb. 10 brings together for the first time convincing data that explains that we are not only our genes but a product of our environment as well. Through enlightening and oftentimes poignant interviews with experts and pioneers “IN UTERO” paints a complex tapestry of the human experience from conception to birth. Tapping into cultural myths, popular movies, and technological trends, the film demonstrates how our experiences in utero – particularly traumatic events – preoccupy us throughout our lives, impacting our decisions and shaping society. To our knowledge, this is the first time this film has been shown in Maine.

This film is the first in a series of films focused on creating awareness and education about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their potential lifelong impact on our health and well-being throughout the lifespan. The second film is entitled “RESILIENCE” and will be shown on Sunday, April 7.

“IN UTERO” is 85 minutes in length and will be followed by a brief facilitated conversation. This film is a “must” for anyone who has children, who works with children, or who once was a child.
