Clarence “CJ” Johnston

PO Clarence Johnston OB    GREENVILLE – Clarence “CJ” Johnston, 62, died August 28, 2013, at C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville, after a 16 month battle with cancer. His wife of 36 years, Lucy, was by his side. He was born August 21, 1951, in Greenville, to Clarence H. and Isabel F. (Worster) Johnston.
CJ grew up in Seboomook and spent his childhood fishing, hunting and trapping with his family. The love of the woods stayed with him all of his life. After graduation from Greenville High School, he worked for Great Northern Paper Co. with the road maintenance (Woodlands) division operating heavy equipment, and ended his tenure as a road grader operator. After the “road crew” was disbanded, he tried his hand at several things, usually involving machinery, especially the grader. He also worked as a fuel delivery driver and propane technician for R. H. Foster. Eventually he started his own small engine repair and propane service from his home.
CJ and Lucille “Lucy” Worthen, of Guilford, were married at the Log Chapel in Rockwood on June 19, 1977. They enjoyed being together, weathering whatever life threw their way. CJ enjoyed camping and ice fishing. His favorite spot was the family camp, Swan Farm, where he and Lucy and family and friends had 25 years of enjoyment.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy; a brother, Sandy H. Johnston; a nephew, Brandon; and great-niece, Leah, all of Jacksonville, FL; a brother-in-law, Joseph Worthen and Heidi of Waterville; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Durant, and nephew, Kristofer Durant, both of Bangor; a niece, Hilary and her husband, Andrew, and their daughter, Naomi Rosaleen Robichaud of Brewer; a nephew, Zach Sanders of Clifton; a niece, Misty Sanders and Zee of Derby, CT; half sister, Debbie Tajmajer and her husband, Dave, and daughters, Courtney and Sherri of E. Haddam, CT; aunt-in-law, Muriel Malone of Corinna; several cousins and many wonderful friends.
There will be a graveside committal service at the Greenville Cemetery 11 a.m., September 21, 2013, with Pastor Steve Nuite officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow downstairs at the Greenville Masonic Temple. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in CJ’s memory to C. A. Dean Memorial Hospital, PO Box 1129, Greenville ME 04441. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Guilford. For an online guest register, go to www.CrosbyNeal.com.
