Local Grange will be busy for Garland Days

    GARLAND — The Garland Grange has always participated heavily in Garland Days festivities. This year is no exception.  Garland Days is Sept. 6, 7, and 8 with the theme “Garland Produces.” Come check what Grange members in Garland “produce” with the following activities.

    Thursday, Sept. 5 the Grange will host the annual pie baking contest. The categories for this year are fruit, crème, nut and meat, with a separate kids category. Judging begins at 6 p.m. at the Grange Hall; have pies there by 5:30 p.m. Please put a name on the bottom of pie plate to have it returned.
    New this year, on Friday, Sept. 6, the Grange will host a teen dance with music by DJ starting at 7:30 p.m. There will be refreshments on sale.
    Traditional Garland Days events hosted by the Grange include Beano by the American Legion from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The Grange will have lunch on sale both days including hot dogs, sandwiches and desserts.
    Garland Grange puts on the long-established baked bean supper from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7. The all-you-can-eat meal includes baked beans, hot dogs, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, vegetables, bread and desserts.
    Saturday night the Grange hosts the Family Contra Dance from 7:30 to 9:30. The caller is John McIntyre with music by Some Reel People.
    Sunday brings another Grange and Garland Days custom, the Grange breakfast. The meal is served at the Grange Hall from 7-10 a.m. The all-you-can-eat menu includes eggs made to order, bacon, sausage, hash browns, toast, pastries, juice and coffee.
