Water catchment discussion June 8 at Abbott Memorial Library

DEXTER — More and more Central Maine people are considering catching and using the rainwater that falls for free (so far!) on all of us. As our yearly precipitation slowly increases and, ironically, long spells of droughtiness also occur due to atmospheric shifts, it makes sense to consider different ways of capturing and storing rain when it does happen to use for when it doesn’t.

Maine’s groundwater resource is increasingly under scrutiny by the rest of the planet for commercial and even political use. Who owns the water that flows above, around, and under us all? A homeowner’s roof may play a role in this drama.

On Friday, June 8 Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition (DDATT) will host its monthly public sharing from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Abbott Memorial Library on water catchment in Maine. A facilitated discussion will allow participants to share their experiences, systems, opinions, and predictions on the topic of capturing and using precipitation.
