40,000 whoopie pies will be at 2018 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival organizers have announced they expect bakers to bring 40,000 whoopie pies to Dover-Foxcroft for the 2018 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 23.
Event organizer Patrick Myers said that there may be more whoopie pies in Dover-Foxcroft on June 23 than have ever existed in one place before. “With 26 bakers on hand this year, we’re estimating there will be at least 40,000 whoopie pies in Dover-Foxcroft that day,” he said. “While there is no Guinness Book of World Records for this yet, we think this may be the largest collection of whoopie pies ever in the history of the whoopie-verse.” He said lead sponsor Shaw’s Supermarkets is bringing 5,000 whoopie pies on its own.
Myers said the bakers will be coming from all over Maine and some from Massachussets to share their creations with thousands of whoopie pie fans. He has no estimate as to the number of different varieties that will be on hand, “Each baker may bring five or 10 or more different flavors so there will easily be hundreds of different flavors and varieties, really something for everyone.”
Festival organizers are also looking for volunteers to help out on festival day. Volunteers get free admission as well as discounts on T-shirts and other fun perks.
Along with the whoopie pies, there will be lots of other fun food and drink as well as artists, crafters, rides and games for the kids, along with live music all day long. The festival, in its ninth year, celebrates the taste of Maine’s Official State Treat.
