Home tour of photovoltaic systems planned for June 2
Have you been thinking of adding solar power to your home? Have questions and don’t know who to ask?
Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition (DDATT) is arranging a free Photovoltaic Open House tour of sorts on Saturday, June 2 with a few local solar-powered homes as examples of what is currently possible. Owners will be happy to share their experiences, knowledge, and hopefully answer your questions.
Some of these systems are grid-tied, battery backup, professionally installed and some are off-grid, self-installed, and simple. One size does not fit all.
The participating five homes are in St. Albans, Cambridge, and Parkman and one in Argyle. To protect their privacy, please email Jean Greenough at jeangreen207@yahoo.com who will then send you addresses, descriptions, and times to visit these solar sites.
Some reasons to add solar to your life:
1) Good for the environment. There are no harmful emissions, it’s a clean, renewable process.
2) Good home investment. Not only will you save money on your energy bills but the value of your property will increase.
3) Solar energy systems are durable. They can withstand high winds, hail, and heavy snow and usually last 25 years or more.
4) Protection against rising energy costs.
5) You don’t need sunlight to generate energy. You just need daylight.
6) Solar panels cool your house. The panels soak up the sun’s rays, directing them to the panels and not your roof.
7) Help our local economy and create jobs.
8) Help create an energy-independent country.
9) Improve grid security; less people using the grid equals less blackouts and brownouts.
