Dorothy M. Hersey

PO Dorothy Hersey OB    DOVER-FOXCROFT – Dorothy M. Hersey, 86, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Bangor on August 1, 2013, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born in Norwich, England, on November 2, 1926, to Arthur and Eleanor (Wells) Tatt.
After surviving the WWII bombings of her hometown in Norwich, England, Dorothy came to America in 1946 as a war bride when she was just 20 years old, with her infant daughter, Dottie, on a troop ship. She began a new life in a new country, raising her family and making a warm and loving home in Dover-Foxcroft with her husband, Fred, and her two daughters, Dottie and Diane.
She loved her family and especially adored her two grandchildren, Samantha and Greg. She always celebrated holidays and birthdays with lots of great food, especially her famous English Jam Tarts. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and embroidering, and took great pride in her housekeeping.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Dottie and husband, Ken Wojnar of Plaistow, NH, Diane and husband, Randy Perkins of Bangor; two grandchildren who will miss their Nana terribly, Samantha Perkins of South Portland and her boyfriend, Taylor Barringer, and Gregory Perkins of Winterport and his girlfriend, Amanda Lister; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be especially remembered by canine friends, Brody, Sterling and Annabelle.
She was predeceased by her wonderful husband of 50 years, Fred Hersey; her brother-in-law, Harold Hersey; her brother, Arthur Wells; her sister, Joyce Mackie; her brother, Clarence Tatt; her sister, Joan Bales; her brother, Norris Tatt; and her brother Carlos Tatt.
Dorothy’s family would especially like to thank the nurses of the Hospice of Eastern Maine, who made this journey for Dorothy much easier in her final days.
Services will be private for the family. Those who wish to remember Dorothy in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Maine Cancer Foundation at www.MaineCancer.org or 170 US Route 1, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105.
