‘Saving Snow’ at Center Theatre March 25
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Maybe this part of Maine at this time of this particular year isn’t such a good time to be screening a film on the economic impacts of warming winters, but “Saving Snow”, a 53-minute documentary will be shown at the Center Theatre at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 25 — appropriate for all age groups and for free.
Filmmaker Diogo Friere says, “The goal is make climate change concrete. I try to find specific examples of communities that are being affected and also show how they are responding.”
A disappearing snow season is more than just a frustration for winter sports enthusiasts. It means lost income for the many towns and small businesses that depend on winter tourism and recreation to stay afloat.
“Saving Snow” focuses on people coming to terms with these changes. But it also presents solutions. The film highlights individuals and organizations who are working to reduce their communities’ impacts on the environment and raise awareness of the need for action.
With the Olympics last month, athletes are speaking up about what they see happening to their sport. Watch Jessie Diggins and the U.S. Olympic Ski Team explain their concerns and give their advice about climate change.
Following the film will be a discussion of solutions and an opportunity for questions and answers.
