Piscataquis Regional YMCA celebrates 25 years

DOVER-FOXCROFT — In the summer of 1988 the Piscataquis Regional YMCA opened its doors on Park Street. At the annual meeting on July 25 at 5 p.m. PRYMCA officials will be celebrating their 25th anniversary and are inviting the public to attend.

“We are so grateful for the support of the community over the past 25 years,” said Deb Boyd, the Y’s executive director. “Without the support of individuals and businesses in our area we would not be here today.”
The Y began in the early 1980s as a “Y Without Walls” running youth programs out of a closet at the town offices. After a successful fundraising campaign, the Y built its facility on Park Street and has been offering programs focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility ever since.
To help celebrate their beginnings, founding Executive Director Barry Costa, currently director of the Y Camp of Maine, will be speaking during the Y’s festivities. The Y would also like to invite any other “faces from the past” to come and share their favorite YMCA stories.
“We are a community centered organization and would love for the community to be a part of our 25th anniversary celebration with us,” Boyd stated. Also during the ceremony, the Y’s Youth Advisory Council will be sharing their vision of the PRYMCA 25 years from now.
The PRYMCA will be holding its annual meeting and 25th anniversary celebration on Thursday, July 25 at 5 p.m. They will be offering a classic summer BBQ picnic with hot dogs, burgers, salads etc. For more information, please call the Y at 564-7111.
The PRYMCA is a cause-driven organization that is committed to the community and dedicated to promoting healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, through programs and services grounded in Christian heritage and the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
