Road race news

    Five runners from the region were among the record 628 participants in the 33rd annual Walter Hunt Memorial 3K on July 4 from Brewer to Bangor. Due to a standoff in Bangor earlier in the morning, the course was shortened from a 3K to a distance of 1.51 miles.

    Placing 77th was Stuart Hedstrom, 30 of Dover-Foxcroft, with a time of 9 minutes, 24 seconds. In 178th place was Dan Shaw, 49 of Charleston, in 11:14. Hillary Baiamonte, 19 of Dover-Foxcroft, was 197th at 11:33; David Stanhope, 49 of Exeter, was 274th at 12;22; and 538th was Tammy Palmer, 45 of Dexter, at 16:28.
    Winning the race was Riley Masters, 23 of Veazie, a recent graduate of the University of Oklahoma and member of the Sooner Big 12 cross country and track teams who owns the 3K course record in 8:02. Masters covered the abbreviated 2013 route in 6:35. The women’s winner was Jordan Daniel, 25, who placed 15th overall in 7:58.
