Upcoming area Grange events

    Friday, July 12 Garland Grange features a baked bean supper from 5-7 p.m. Menu includes baked beans, hot dogs, coleslaw, potato, vegetables, bread and homemade desserts. Takeout is available. For more information, call 924-6954. The Garland Grange is located on Oliver Hill Road.

    Saturday, July 13 Wayside Grange offers pulled pork sandwiches on bulky rolls with coleslaw, baked beans, pasta salad, strawberry shortcake and chocolate strawberry cake from 5 to 7 p.m.  Live dinner music is included.  The Wayside Grange/Theatre is located on Route 23, 851 North Dexter Road.     Thursday, July 18 is the date for the Piscataquis Pomona Grange annual Fun and Fund Raiser at the Boomsma’s home — 17 River Road in Abbot. Arrive any time after 5 p.m. for some horseshoe pitching … bring lawn games … just sit and feed the mosquitoes…  the grill starts sizzling at 6 p.m. .… and we have a short but fun auction (bring a few items to donate) beginning around 7 p.m.  This is not just for Grangers. Picnic is potluck — hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided by Janice and Walter, bring a salad or dessert. We usually wind up with the traditional marshmallow roast.     Saturday, July 20 there will be a really cool “Then and Now” fashion show at Valley Grange, sponsored by the DUV (Daughter of Union Veterans). You’ll see Civil War-era garments as well as contemporary fashions. The show starts at  6:30 p.m. Refreshments will available by Grange members and feature “timely” drinks and foods. Call Mary Annis at 564-0820 for more information or tickets. Tickets are also available at Label Shopper. The Valley Grange Hall is located at 172 Guilford Center Road in Guilford.
    Saturday, July 27 is the Guilford River Festival. Valley Grange members will continue their annual tradition of passing out balloons to the kids and Mr. Boomsma will be there signing books.
