Chamber ribbon cutting for Whitney’s Family Market in Guilford will be Oct. 6

GUILFORD — Blaine and Tammy Whitney have been successful business owners in the supermarket industry for decades. Earlier this year they purchased the Goulette’s IGA store, renaming it Whitney’s Family Market.

The Guilford location, sharing the same name as the Whitney’s Family Market in Corinth, is co-owned by the Whitneys and Brandon and Laci Daigle, the couple’s daughter and son-in-law. Though Blaine Whitney serves as president, the store is primarily managed by the Daigles, and will, eventually, be theirs entirely. The four have worked as a team for years in Corinth, and are excited to bring “Whitney’s” to Guilford.

“I’ve had my eyes on this store for years, I had been in touch with Barry, the previous owner,” explained Blaine Whitney. “I really liked the store and the location. I loved the community. I told Barry when we spoke that if were ever to sell, to give me a call.”

In late 2016, Barry Goulette did place that call, and the sale took place in March of this year. “We are so happy to be here,” Whitney said. “We are thankful that we were able to hold on to the IGA employees, keeping the ongoing relationship with the community going.”

After months of some restructure to the setup of the store, some new equipment and improvements, Whitney’s Market will celebrate its official grand opening with a full week-plus of special sales beginning Friday, Oct. 6. The event will provide customers the ability to enter to win significant prizes such as shopping sprees between $200 and $500, a grill, a basketball hoop, and many other smaller giveaways. The winners’ names will be drawn on Oct. 16.

“We will open at 7 a.m., as usual,” explained Laci Daigle, “and the grand opening sales will begin at 9 a.m.”
