John Garfield Stone

John Garfield Stone, aged 70, died peacefully August 8, 2017, at the Hospice House with his loving wife of 42 years, Anita, at his side. He was born January 18, 1947 in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Alexander Garfield Stone and Anna Davis Stone. John was a loving husband, uncle, teacher, friend, and generous humani-tarian. He loved teaching, coaching the math team, and helping young people reach their full potential. John (AKA “the Doctor”) spent 35 years at Maranacook Community School as many of his students’ favorite math teacher and many of his colleagues’ best friend. John always looked for and found the best in everyone and brought joy, love and fun to his family, students, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Richard Stone and his brother-in-law, Robert Couturier. John will be missed by his wife Anita and their cat Beau, his sister Nancy Page and her husband Richard, his niece Leanne Turton and husband Greg, his nephew Bob Page and wife Debbie, his great nephews Zachary and Carter, and great nieces Molly and Sydney, and his sister-in-law Monique Couturier and her family Denis, Gerry, Kristi and Avie Touchette. John will also be missed by his beloved ‘rent-a-dogs’ Peaches, Scooter, Ivory and Winston and every damn stray cat, squirrel, fox, raccoon, skunk, pigeon, possum, ground hog and blue jay in the greater Lewiston area. John always gave generously of his time to help young people. Visitation will be held at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 16, from 10:30 AM to 12 PM. Followed by a service at 12 Noon. Interment, St. Peter’s Cemetery. In his memory, his family has established the John Stone Memorial Scholarship at Maranacook Community School. We would welcome donations in John’s memory to his scholarship fund to help students with financial needs attend college.
