Lamb announces resignation

    GREENVILLE — Gary Lamb will be stepping down as Greenville town manager next month, following an executive session of the Greenville Board of Selectmen last week.

    Lamb made the unexpected announcement on Friday. “At that meeting, I submitted my resignation as town manager effective August 6, 2013, since my contract requires a 60-day notice,” Lamb said in a prepared statement. “My reasons are both professional and personal. I am pursuing another town manager’s position, but it may be another week or two before that is finalized.”
    Lamb pledged to “will work with Greenville selectmen and staff to help as much as I can during this transition, and … I will come back for a couple days of download with my successor if that is desired.”
    Lamb was hired in November 2010 out of a field of 26 candidates. He was the director of planning and community development for Old Orchard Beach and formerly served as assistant planner and code enforcement officer in Kennebunk. He previously served on the Sanford Town Council.
    The town manager is also a former wildlife biologist with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, and said at the time that his familiarity with the Moosehead Lake region was a major reason he applied for the job.
    Lamb alluded to his fondness for the community in his departure statement. “Judy (his wife) and I will leave Greenville with many new friends and some great memories. We have been coming here for 34 years, and will keep coming on weekends and vacations to hike, bike, hunt and fish,” he wrote. “I will continue to keep up on Greenville affairs and look for great economic development changes in the years to come. Greenville is going to grow in a positive sense, because it is the perfect place to be the premier four-season recreation community in the Northeast.”
