FA students will have a chance to earn Husson University credits

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — Foxcroft Academy and Husson University have reached an agreement that will allow FA students to earn Husson credit by taking classes at FA that align with academic offerings at the university in Bangor. The initial plan is to offer up to two general education courses per semester at Foxcroft Academy beginning next fall, and the courses will also enable students to make progress toward fulfilling their high school graduation requirements. Students will be able to enroll in these dual-credit courses at no cost.

    The dual-credit courses will be taught by Foxcroft Academy teachers who meet Husson’s educational background criteria and demonstrate a willingness to align their course with a corresponding offering at the university. FA’s instructor’s will work closely with Frank Hubbard, Dean of Science and Humanities at Husson, and professors at Husson who teach aligning courses.
    “I’m a very strong supporter and advocate for dual enrollment,” said Hubbard. “I’ve seen it work on a very large scale in Atlanta, so I know that it has great potential. It has the capacity to transform a student’s senior year and give a useful taste of college-level work, but it’s for students at all levels — not just AP levels. It can save parents a lot of money, and it also frees high school faculty often to concentrate on other kinds of courses.”
    The agreement with Husson adds another piece to the puzzle in Foxcroft Academy’s ongoing work to focus on career and college readiness for all students. “We are very pleased and excited about adding more opportunities for our students to meet their career pathway goals,” said Foxcroft Head of School Arnold Shorey. “That is a valuable part of our mission.”
