Demonstration forest volunteer work day
WILLIAMSBURG — The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a Demonstration Forest Volunteer Trail Clearing Day on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1:15 to 4 p.m. to prepare our community forest for summertime visitors. We are seeking help with general trail clean up and other projects. This is a great opportunity for civic groups and families to get involved in the stewardship of our local public forest, as well as for any students seeking community service hours.
We will be hosting a BBQ luncheon at noon, during which time State Horticulturist Ann Gibbs of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, will provide an Invasive Pest and Plants Workshop to teach people about the pests that may pose a threat to our woodlands in Maine, such as the Emerald Ash Borer, the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid and the Asian Longhorned Beetle. She will provide information on identifying these pests and what to do if these pests are found in our region. You are welcome to register and participate in the workshop even if you are unable to assist with trail clearing – we welcome all participation in our community educational forest.
Please contact the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District at 564 – 2321, extension 3 or at info@piscataquisswcd.org for more information or to pre-register for the Demonstration Forest Trail Clearing Day or other volunteer opportunities, and/or to sign up for our Invasive Pests and Plants Workshop.
