Nineteenth annual Variety Show raises a record $8,200 for Pine Tree Hospice

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — The 19th annual Pine Tree Hospice Variety Show was held at the Center Theatre on April 26 and raised a record-setting $8,200 for Pine Tree Hospice, a volunteer hospice that has been providing invaluable services free of charge to the surrounding community for more than 25 years. “This show was the most successful yet,” said Jane Stitham, executive director of Pine Tree Hospice. “These funds are vital to Pine Tree Hospice’s mission and will allow us to continue serving the community to the best of our ability.”

HOSPICE VARIETY SHOW — Among the acts performing at the 19th annual Pine Tree Hospice Variety Show last month at the Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft were singer Meghan Spooner and harpist Isleen Halvorsen and, below, the Provenzano sisters — triplets who are students at John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor. The Variety Show raised a record $8,200 for Pine Tree Hospice.

    Community advocate Patrick Myers served as Master of Ceremonies for the show, which featured performances from Mya Young, a fifth-grader at Piscataquis Community Elementary School; the PRYMCA youth dance group, which was led by Abby Wedge; Meghan Spooner, a young singer who performed with accomplished harpist Isleen Halvorsen (who also performed a solo piece); Rebeclyn Parker, an 11-year-old from Dexter who has been dancing for eight years; Diane Lord, a lifelong Dover-Foxcroft native; the Monson General Store Jammers, an eclectic group of musicians who have been playing together for eight years; The Slightly Off-Center Players, who have been meeting at Center Theatre for more than five years; and the Provenzano Sisters, talented triplets who are sophomores at John Bapst Memorial High School.
    Foxcroft Academy students Mingchuan Liu and Zhenjie Xu provided excellent guitar music in the lobby prior to the Variety Show; Kerri Raymond was the winner of a beautiful quilt that was created by Helen Higgins, Rita Mountain and Vicki Brackett and was raffled off by Betsy Minott, Pine Tree Hospice’s new coordinator of volunteers and client services; and many of the show’s younger performers opened the evening with the always-popular Parade of Sponsors.
    “A simple ‘Thank you’ doesn’t seem enough to express our appreciation to the multitude of people who gave their time and talents to make this evening possible,” said Stitham. “To all the performers, sponsors, community volunteers, and general supporters of Pine Tree Hospice — please know how much we value your efforts!
