D-F Church of the Nazarene to mark 50 years on Sunday

DOVER-FOXCROFT — A milestone has been reached and a celebration has been planned at the Dover-Foxcroft Church of the Nazarene.
In 1966 Pastor David and Faith McLeish and their family moved from Skowhegan to Dover-Foxcroft to meet people and start the Church of the Nazarene. Their 19 West Main Street home served as both their residence and as their church.
Every Sunday morning tables were set up in the kitchen, living room and bedrooms to accommodate 75-100 adults and children for Sunday school and church. This meant that beds were dismantled and stacked to make room and later, after the service was over and attendees had gone home, the tables and chairs were removed and restacked and the beds were reassembled.
A new church building was placed on Dexter Road property in October 1974 and the first church service in this building was held on Dec. 1, 1974. A new parsonage at 88 North Street was purchased in 1979 for the McLeish family.
On Sunday, March 19 the church will celebrate its 50th birthday. Sunday school will begin at 9:45 a.m. The worship service, led by Maine District Superintendent Rev. Cecil Jones, will begin at 11 a.m. Chris and Katya Rogers and family from the Skowhegan Nazarene Church will be providing special music on Sunday.
Following the service, a luncheon will be served with cake and ice cream.
The Dover-Foxcroft Church of the Nazarene invites everyone in the community to attend the 50th celebration, especially those who have previously attended Sunday school or the church. For more information, please contact Pastor Robert Armstrong at 279-0760 or 474-6847 or Karen LaBlanc at 717-0391.
