Horizon Scholarship applications available to FA underclassmen and SeDoMoCha eighth-graders

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Horizon Scholarships were established by the trustees of Foxcroft Academy in an attempt to expand academic opportunities and enhance the personal and academic growth of Foxcroft Academy students in grades 9-11. Funds for this program are generated through income from endowed Horizon Scholarship funds and the Foxcroft Homecoming Golf Scramble, with approximately $6,000 awarded each year.
The Horizon Scholarship is intended to provide financial support for academic experiences, including experiential learning, which are not presently offered at Foxcroft Academy. Any student in grade 8, 9, 10 or 11 who is (or will be) enrolled as a full-time student at Foxcroft Academy is eligible to apply. The program is intended for summer experiences however, consideration will be given to special programs offered during the school year. All past recipients are encouraged to apply, if meeting the criteria.
Applications are available from Mrs. Johnston in the main office, Mrs. Hall in the Packard Center or in the Counseling Services office. Eighth-graders may pick one up in the Counseling Services Office at the SeDoMoCha School. The application deadline is Friday, March 17. Awards will be paid directly to the institution or organization sponsoring the activity upon proper verification of the applicant’s acceptance.
Upon completion of the program attended, scholarship recipients will be required to share their experiences with the Foxcroft Academy community. Within one month of returning, recipients will submit for publication, a short essay and at least one picture of him/herself at their particular program. Recipients may also be asked to speak in assembly regarding their experience.
Scholarships will be awarded to applicants after careful review of the application, essay and references. Financial need will be considered but this scholarship is not a needs-based one.
