Ceremony honors three brothers who served in the Civil War

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On June 20 the Douty Camp #11, SUVCW and Sarah Elizabeth Palmer Tent #23, DUVCW met at the McAllister Cemetery in West Dover to honor three brothers who served in the Civil War.

Three brothers from the Bridges family joined and only one of them survived. Joshua Bridges Jr. joined the 2nd Maine Regiment, he died June 15, 1863 at age 25. Brother Benjamin joined the 1st Maine Artillery and he died Aug. 28, 1864, age 20. The third brother was David Bridges of the 13th Maine Regiment, serving for three years but was plagued with ill health from malaria his entire life.

A ceremony for each of the brothers was held and swags placed on their headstones. Ten members of the Bridge family attended.
