Christine B. Foundation launches campaign to support cancer patients
The Christine B. Foundation is launching its Nourishing Hope: 30 for 300 Campaign, an ambitious effort to raise $30,000 in 30 days to provide one month of medically tailored groceries and nutrition support to 300 cancer patients throughout Maine.
The campaign officially kicks off with community food drives from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 6 at participating Hannaford, including Dexter. Volunteers will be on site collecting food and donations to support local cancer patients and their families.
Founded in memory of Christine Dexter, the Christine B Foundation provides practical support to individuals undergoing cancer treatment through medically tailored grocery deliveries, oncology nutrition counseling, transportation assistance and other services designed to reduce barriers to care and improve quality of life during treatment.
“For many patients, cancer affects every aspect of daily life — including access to nutritious food,” Executive Director Matt Dexter said. “Through this campaign, we’re asking our communities to come together and help ensure that 300 patients have the nourishment and support they need to continue their fight.”
The campaign highlights the critical role nutrition plays in cancer treatment. Through partnerships with oncology professionals, The Christine B. Foundation helps patients navigate treatment-related side effects, chronic health conditions and dietary challenges that can impact their ability to tolerate treatment and recover.
One foundation oncology dietitian recently shared how nutrition support helped one patient manage diabetes during treatment while another improved kidney function enough to resume chemotherapy after treatment had been paused.
The need extends beyond nutrition alone. Patients and caregivers consistently describe the program as a source of hope and stability during difficult times.
“Having this healthy food available to prepare for him gives me purpose — it makes me feel like I’m helping him fight cancer,” shared one caregiver.
Another patient recently reflected on the impact of the program, saying, “The food program has been such a blessing. I’m feeling well and my doctor says there’s no sign of cancer.”
The June 6 food drives mark the first major event of the month-long campaign which will culminate with Dinner with Christine B. on June 22, bringing together supporters, community leaders and cancer advocates to celebrate the impact of the Foundation’s work.
Community members can support the campaign by donating food, making a financial contribution, volunteering or encouraging their employers to participate through workplace giving initiatives, sponsorships and employee engagement opportunities.
