BANGOR — It wasn’t always pretty, but the Mattanawcook Academy did enough to get the victory on Saturday night Feb. 21.
The Lynx girls basketball team gritted through a turnover-filled Class C North regional final against Foxcroft Academy at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Mattanawcook won by a final score of 41-22.
There were more than 30 turnovers between the two teams in the game, but Mattanawcook’s two 1,000-point scorers, Addison Cyr and Megan House, eventually took control of the game for the No. 1 team in the region.

CLASS C NORTH CHAMPIONSHIP — Foxcroft Academy’s Kassidy Lebel catches a pass during the Class C North championship vs Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Feb. 21. The Lynx won 41-22 to move on to the Class C championship on Feb. 28.
“We knew they definitely liked to slow it down a lot,” Cyr told WHOU after the win. “So we knew that if we built a six point, eight point lead it was going to change the game in our favor.”
House led all scorers with 17 points. Cyr scored 15 points and had another productive night on the boards with 13 rebounds.
The Lynx were only up 6-4 after a sloppy first quarter, but stretched their lead to 22-6 at halftime and continued to control the game in the second half.

Cyr said the Lynx went into the game knowing they would need to focus on having one good possession at a time, rather than trying to score a bunch of points all at once.
“So it wasn’t as many points as we sometimes usually score, but hey, we got it done,” Cyr said.
The Mattanawcook girls will now have a chance at their first-ever state title at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28 when they play Spruce Mountain of Livermore Falls at the Augusta Civic Center.
The Lynx moved to 21-0 on the season with Saturday night’s regional final win.
