Pair of local athletes win indoor track events
ORONO — Two area athletes won events at a Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League meet on Jan. 17 at the New Balance Field House on the campus of the University of Maine.
The Foxcroft Academy boys scored 22 points to finish sixth among a field of nine schools.
Pony senior Conner Donahue had the meet’s top distance in the long jump. Donahue landed a distance measuring 20 feet, 3 inches, more than a half foot beyond the 19-08.75 for runner-up Hampden Academy junior Noah Madden.
Donahue also came in fourth in the 55-meter finals with his time of 7.01 seconds.
Foxcroft junior Noah Ferioli finished as runner-up in the mile with his time of 5:02.91. Ferioli trailed only the 4:40.79 for Hampden senior Asher Valentine.
The Piscataquis Community High School boys were seventh in the standings with a score of 14.5 points.
Senior Noah Kain led the Pirates with his third-place finish in the triple jump at 37-04.75. Kain and Hampden senior Evan Weldon tied for fifth in the high jump at 4-08.
Sophomore Oliver Luckovskis came in fourth in the 800 with his time of 2:11.18.
Junior Phoenix Brown was fifth in the triple and sixth in the long jump at respective distances of 36-06 and 16-03.
The Penquis Valley High School boys picked up 10 points from senior Jareth Williams to come in ninth in the team standings.
Williams came in third in the 55-meter finals with his time of 6.98 seconds. He placed fourth in the 200 at 25.48 seconds.
In the girls meet, PCHS scored 17 points to finish seventh among eight teams.
Sophomore Macie Littlefield had the team’s top performance by placing third in the 55-meter hurdle finals with her time of 11.33 seconds. Littlefield also cleared 4-04 in the high jump to come in fourth in the event.
Sophomore Ella Zeller had a fourth-place throw in the shot put at 28 feet.
Three Pirates picked up a point apiece with sixth-place performances. They were senior Sadie Kelley in the mile at 7:17.09, junior Haylee Marshall in the long jump at 13-04.75 and senior Molly Goodwin in the triple jump at 28-01.50.
The Foxcroft Academy girls recorded a score of 11 points to come in eighth at the meet.
Pony junior Jasmine Hall won the shot put with a throw of 33-05.50. Hall bested the second-place throw of 28-07.50 for Hermon High School senior Addi Kenney by nearly five feet.
Freshman Olivia Mishio had a point for Foxcroft by placing sixth in the 800 in a time of 2:46.64.
