Three area athletes win indoor track events

ORONO — Three area athletes won events at a Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League meet on Jan. 9 at the New Balance Field House on the campus of the University of Maine.

The Piscataquis Community High School girls scored 19.25 points to finish seventh among a field of eight schools.

Pirate sophomore Ava Edes had the meet’s top performance in the high jump. Edes cleared the bar at 5 feet, 1 inch to win the event, finishing five inches above the 4-08 for the runner-up — Ellsworth High School freshman Caitlin Jenkins.

Edes also came in fifth in the 55-meter hurdle finals with her time of 10.10 seconds.

Sophomore Macie Littlefield was part of a 4-way tie for third place in the high jump at 4-04.

The PCHS 4×200 relay placed fifth, fourth among point-scoring teams. Junior Emery Chambers, seniors Molly Goodwin and Sadie Kelley and junior Haylee Marshall combined for a time of 2:11.07.

Foxcroft Academy was eighth in the girls standings with a score of six points.

Junior Jasmine Hall picked up the half dozen points with her third-place shot put throw at 32-10.50.

In the boys meet, Foxcroft Academy came in sixth of eight teams with 20 points as two Ponies both won their events.

Junior Noah Ferioli had the top 2-mile time in 11:16.35. Ferioli was more than 22 seconds faster than the 11:38.66 for No. 2 runner, Hampden Academy sophomore John Wilkerson.

Senior Conner Donahue finished first in the long jump with his distance of 20-03.25, two inches beyond the 20-01.25 for Bangor High School senior Jordan Pettway.

The PCHS boys recorded eight points to place eighth at the meet.

Junior Phoenix Brown and senior Noah Kain came in fourth and fifth in the triple jump with respective leaps of 36-06.50 and 34-04.75.

Sophomore Oliver Luckovskis was fifth in the 400 with a time of 60.17 seconds.
