Three area boys win indoor track events
ORONO — Three male area athletes won events at a Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League meet on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 5 at the New Balance Field House on the campus of the University of Maine.
The Foxcroft Academy boys scored 34 points to place sixth among a field of 10 teams, with a pair of Ponies having first-place performances.
Junior Noah Ferioli won the mile in a time of 5 minutes, 11.91 seconds. He was more than a half minute ahead of the 5:43.57 for runner-up, Sumner Memorial High School of Sullivan/Narraguagus High School of Harrington cooperative sophomore Rueben Bradley.
Ferioli also came in third in the 800 with his time of 2:20.37.
Foxcroft senior Conner Donahue had the meet’s top distance in the long jump. Donahue landed at 20 feet, 10 inches, 10 inches beyond the 20 feet for Old Town High School senior Parker Day.
Donahue placed second in the 55-meter finals in a time of exactly 7 seconds.
Penquis Valley High School ended the meet seventh in the boys standings with a score of 18 points.
Senior Jareth Williams finished first in the 55-meter finals with his time of 6.98 seconds, winning the race by 0.02 seconds.
Williams was also second in the 200 with his time of 24.97 seconds.
Piscataquis Community High School ended 10th in the standings with two points.
Senior Noah Kain’s triple jump distance of 35-09 was good for fifth place.
In the girls standings, PCHS scored 27 points to come in seventh among 10 schools.
Pirate sophomore Ava Edes had a second-place performance in the high jump. Edes cleared the bar at 5 feet.
First-place high jumper Old Town High School senior Elyannah Briggs tied the league record at 5-06, a mark set by Bangor High School’s Grace MacLean in 2013.
Edes also came in third in the 55-meter hurdle finals at 9.97 seconds.
Sophomore Macie Littlefield was sixth in 11.07 seconds, and she was fourth in the high jump standings at 4-06.
Sophomore Ella Zeller had a second-place shot put throw at 30-01.25.
The Penquis girls were ninth with four points.
Patriot junior Ava Shoopman picked up the four points with her fourth-place run in the 400, clocking in at 1:03.06.
Foxcroft Academy was 10th with two points.
Freshman Olivia Mishio came in fifth in the mile with a time of 6:51.22.
