Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union donates food to six local backpack programs
DEXTER — Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union recently donated nearly 800 pounds of non-perishable food to six local backpack programs serving students in the communities surrounding its branch locations. Food was collected throughout September, October and November, thanks to the generosity of MHFCU members and employees.
These efforts align with the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger, a statewide initiative that raised more than $1.3 million in 2024.

“Our school backpack programs provide snacks and meals for kids facing food insecurity and gaps in government assistance. No child should go hungry, which is why MHFCU was excited to focus our most recent fundraising efforts on supporting our local schools. Thanks to the generosity of our members and employees, we were able to not only fill backpacks with nutritious food, but also lift up families and strengthen our community,” said a member of MHFCU’s Caring for Community committee.
The MHFCU Caring for Community committee organizes fundraisers and service projects throughout the year to support the communities the credit union serves.
