Tri-County Technical Center FFA Chapter represents Maine at 98th National FFA Convention

This past October over 70,000 FFA members from across the country gathered in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the 98th National FFA Convention. Among them was a team from the Tri-County Technical Center FFA Chapter, proudly representing the state of Maine in the Environmental and Natural Resources Career Development Event.

The team earned this opportunity after taking first place in the state-level competition held last spring. The members of the team included Topher McGuinness, Lily Geary, Autumn Picard, Burleigh Rowe and Hiram Butler.

The Environmental and Natural Resource event focuses on soils, water, ecosystems, waste management, navigational mapping and environmental monitoring through GPS. Students participate in team presentations, hands-on practicums and written exams to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in environmental and natural resource management.

Hiram Butler, a junior at Dexter Regional High said, “Travelling to Indianapolis for the FFA conference was so interesting! I was able to travel to places I have never been before and meet some great new people. As well as supporting my team during the competition, I attended several workshops about leadership and learned a lot!”

This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was made possible through the support of the students’ school districts, and the families and community members who continually invest in student success.
