Fagan-Cannon is SeDoMoCha School’s ‘Staff in the Spotlight’ recipient

DOVER-FOXCROFT — SeDoMoCha Elementary and Middle School proudly recognized Amy Fagan-Cannon — known affectionately throughout the school community as “Mrs. FC” — as the October Staff in the Spotlight recipient during the monthly Student in the Spotlight assembly held on Friday, Oct. 24. The award was presented by Assistant Principal Davan Walker.

Walker opened the staff recognition portion of the assembly by noting that, “Each month during our Student in the Spotlight assemblies, we will continue to recognize our staff who go above and beyond each and every day here at SeDoMoCha. Nominees and our winner will receive an out front parking spot for the coming month.”

For October, the focus was on the theme of “Fostering Belonging.” Walker described this as “creating a learning environment where every student feels seen, valued, and connected to both their peers and teachers.” She emphasized that belonging plays a vital role in student engagement, confidence and success.

STAFF IN THE SPOTLIGHT – Amy Fagan-Cannon, “Mrs. FC”, is the SeDoMoCha School’s October Staff in the Spotlight honoree.

This month’s nominees included Haley Mishio, Kelsey Bailey, Jesse Curtis and Amy Fagan-Cannon, a library services ed tech.

When announcing the winner, Walker shared that Mrs. FC “intentionally fosters belonging which builds relationships grounded in trust, empathy and respect, and she creates spaces where differences are celebrated rather than overlooked. Mrs. FC can often be found fostering a sense of belonging both in the library and throughout the hallways. She consistently encourages students to meet SOAR expectations, doing so with such positivity and warmth that her energy becomes contagious.”

Beyond her work within the school, Mrs. FC also leads programs in the broader community through Seeds, an organization where she fosters collaboration and creativity through events such as art shows, talent shows and summer camps.

“If it is through an art show, talent show, or summer camp, you can always find Mrs. FC working to make collaboration and kindness the norm and where students feel safe to express themselves,” Walker said.

Carolyn Clark, SeDoMoCha librarian, added heartfelt words of appreciation, “If I were to compare Amy to a well-loved character, I would choose Alice from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ for her curiosity and sense of wonder. Mrs. F-C, or Miss Amy, is a joy to work with because of her kindness, imagination and whimsical outlook. Like Alice, she approaches the world with an open mind and a sense of wonder. As a hallway greeter, she extends that same warmth and positivity to everyone who walks by. Her friendly smile and welcoming words — whether in French, Spanish or otherwise — create a safe, respectful and uplifting environment where students feel seen and valued.”

Walker closed the presentation by noting that Mrs. FC’s influence reaches far beyond her work with students, “This sense of belonging extends beyond her work with students. Mrs. FC is a true leader among the adults at SeDoMoCha. Her positive energy and caring approach set the tone for an inclusive and supportive environment for both staff and students alike. As one colleague shared just last week, ‘Everyone needs an Amy in their lives.’ I couldn’t agree more.”

The SeDoMoCha community joined in enthusiastic applause as Fagan-Cannon accepted her award, a symbol of appreciation for her commitment to making SeDoMoCha a place where every student and staff member feels they belong.
