Janet Mills should pass the torch

To the Editor;

Gov. Janet Mills will quickly reach the life expectancy age of a woman in the U.S. if she is sworn into the U.S. Senate as a freshman after next year’s election. Seniority means a lot in the Senate. Mills is running to serve a short time.

Graham Platner is a younger, more energetic, and I believe more articulate candidate who can earn a lot of seniority and potentially serve multiple terms, as well as have incumbency advantages for reelection in years not likely as favorable to Democrats as 2026. Mills will be on limited time every day after she is sworn into the Senate.

I don’t think this is fair to Maine. I believe Mills is being selfish, self-centered, and not acting in the interests of Maine voters.

Those of us similar to Mills’ age know better. Mills should be more responsible, act her age, and pass the torch!
