Milo Garden Club summer plans
MILO — Though the 2024-2025 monthly meetings of Milo Garden Club have ended, plans for spring and summer events continue to grow.
At Milo’s Black Fly Festival, members Bev Martell and Danielle Bender ignored the rain and happily offered festival visitors vegetable seedlings, marigolds and zinnias, sown earlier in the spring by club members. People who were interested in learning more about invasive plants were given informative and descriptive information packets. Pamphlets about the Milo Garden Club were available, as well.
Visitors to the booth also had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for the club’s annual Summer Fair and Plant Sale, planned for Thursday, Aug. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Raffle tickets may be purchased from club members or on the day of the fair. One need not be present to win one of the five raffle prizes donated by community members and local businesses. Prizes include a bird feeder from Mike Comeau at Three Rivers Redemption & Feed in Milo, $50 gift certificate from Milo Tradewinds, a gift from Oopsie Daisies and Almost Maybes in Milo, Lap Quilt from Stacey Slagle and three hummingbird feeders from Barbara Reed.

FAIR ITEMS — A painting by former Milo Garden Club president and member Lois Trask is available for bid at the annual Summer Fair and Plant Sale on Aug. 7. Two dolls created by Dorothy Trask are available for bid at the silent auction.

The Milo Garden Club Summer Fair and Plant Sale is an annual fundraiser which benefits local non-profits, Camp Capella and GCFM Penobscot District Campership for district students. Proceeds also aid in spring and summer plantings in Milo.
This year’s fair is at the Kiwanis Building, 15 Harris Pond Road. This is located behind NAPA on outer Park Street. Expect to find plants of all sizes, from perennials to houseplants as well as produce. Other offerings at the fair include a silent auction. Among the items up for bid are a painting by former Garden Club President and member Lois Trask and two dolls made by Dorothy Trask.
In addition to these offerings, visitors to the sale may shop for handcrafted gifts, jigsaw puzzles or choose a home baked item from the bake sale table. A luncheon is available by donation and door prizes will be drawn every half hour. Winners must be present to accept their door prize.
When asked about prices, club members remind everyone that there is no admission to the fair and “our prices will fit your small bills!”
