‘Wildlife Biodiversity in Your Woods’ offered by PCSWCD
WILLIAMSBURG TOWNSHIP — Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a “Wildlife Biodiversity in Your Woods” workshop on Aug. 14 at our public land, the Williamsburg Forest. This event is cosponsored by the Maine Woodland Owners. Biodiversity refers to the entire range of species that live in an area, including animals, plants, trees and even down to micro-organisms we can’t see! This workshop will provide a great opportunity to explore the Williamsburg Forest public land, while also learning about our unique state forest habitats and how to manage them.
This workshop will be led by Joesph Roy and Jim Ferrante. Ferrante is the district forester with the Maine Forest Service, and a valued member of the PCSWCD board. He has extensive knowledge of invasive plant and insect species mitigation, timber harvest supervision and forest management planning. Ferrante will be focusing on exploring the different commercial and non-commercial management techniques employed by landowners to improve wildlife habitats.

Roy is a private lands wildlife biologist with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. He will be covering the basic principles of habitat management and how these strategies improve habitat conditions.
This event is a Tree Farm Stewardship Hub Annual Gathering. The Maine Tree Farm Program’s Stewardship Hubs are local networks of community members who come together to share knowledge, experiences, and practices in sustainable forestry. These hubs are meant to connect all landowners and showcase the value of Tree Farms. Whether you are just starting out or experienced, these gatherings are the perfect opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and network with others!
Directions to the Williamsburg Forest will be shared with registration confirmation, so if you are not sure how to get there we will make sure you know! This workshop will provide plenty of information on our forests, management techniques and how our species aid in the balance of these habitats. We are so excited to host this event and learn alongside you! Wear outdoor friendly clothing and a smile, see you there!
Registration is required. This is a free workshop, but space is limited! Please visit our website www.piscataquisswcd.org to register.
