Preliminary work starts on county budget
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The new fiscal year has just begun, but Piscataquis County officials have started preliminary work on the 2026 Piscataquis County budget and the 2026-27 Unorganized Territory budget.
Budget worksheets have gone out to department heads and non-profit organizations that decide to seek county funding and are due back by the end July, County Manager Michael Williams said during a Tuesday morning meeting of the Piscataquis County Commissioners.
“I gave them the usual month,” he said.
In the fall the budget advisory committee will convene to review the pair of spending plans and make recommendations. On an evening in mid to late November — typically a Monday night — the annual budget hearing takes place. The commissioners give final budget approval at one of the December meetings.
