Foxcroft boys, PCHS girls win regional tennis titles

HAMPDEN — The Foxcroft Academy boys tennis team won the Class B North championship and the Piscataquis Community High School girls tennis team won the Class C North championship on Saturday, June 7 at the Armstrong Tennis Center.

The top-seeded Pony boys (15-0) defeated the sixth-seeded boys from John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor (9-6) 4-1 in the B North final.

CLASS B NORTH CHAMPS — The Foxcroft Academy boys are the 2025 Class B North tennis champions after defeating John Bapst 4-1 in the regional final on June 7 at the Armstrong Tennis Center in Hampden. The Ponies moved on to the state championship for the second time in school history (2023).

Foxcroft swept the three singles matches: No. 1 Jerry Nguyen over Laken Walker (6-1, 6-0; No. 2 Max Balliet over Griffin Merrill 5-7, 6-4, 6-3; and No. 3 Flynn Eigen over Filippo Garo 6-4, 6-4.

The Ponies also won in No. 2 doubles with Lucas Machado and Emilio Torrescano defeating Giuseppe Aulisa and Manyuh Napal Napal 6-3, 6-2.

John Bapst won in No. 1 doubles with Sean Yan and Tyler Dorr defeating Tom Nguyen and Henry Holman 6-0, 6-0.

The regional championship is the second in school history, joining the 2023 Class B North title.

Foxcroft was set to face Southern Maine champion Yarmouth High School (15-0) in the state championship on Wednesday, June 11 at Bates College in Lewiston. The South second seed Clippers entered having now won six consecutive regional titles and five straight state crowns including a victory over the Ponies in the 2023 final.

Later in the day on June 7 the top-seeded PCHS girls (11-4) defeated No. 2 Orono High School (8-7) in the Class C North championship to win the first regional tennis title in school history. The regional championship is the first for a PCHS girls team since the 1992 field hockey team won on the way to claiming the Class C championship.

The Pirates swept the three singles and two doubles matches. No. 1 singles: Arianna Crosby over Natalie Vespoli 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 singles Khloe Kimball over Callie Soderberg 6-2, 6-1. No. 3 singles Gabriella Koscielny over Chelsie Smith 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (7-2), 6-4.

No. 1 doubles Kerrigan Wilson, Bella Buehne over Carmen Miller, Izzy Ireland 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. No. 2 doubles: Audrey Chadbourne, Ava Goulette over Carly McCrum, Natalie LaMotte 7-6, 6-1.

PCHS was set to face Southern Maine champion Maranacook Community High School of Readfield (14-1) in the state championship on Wednesday at Bates College in Lewiston. The South second seed Black Bears are in the Class C final for the second time in three years, winning it in 2023.
