 Local athletes record half dozen first-place finishes at PVC track championship

ORONO — The Foxcroft Academy boys finished in fifth place at the 2025 Penobscot Valley Conference small school outdoor track and field championship on Saturday, May 31 at Orono High School. Due to wet conditions, the boys and girls javelin was moved back to Tuesday, June 3.

The Ponies scored 50 points to place fifth among 15 schools picking up points.

Foxcroft’s 4×100 relay earned top honors with its time of 46.69 seconds, well ahead of the 47.43 seconds for Dexter Regional High School. Running the lap were Pony juniors Aiden Bryant and Landon Smith, sophomore Joesph Knapp and junior Conner Donahue.

Donahue had the day’s best performance in the long jump at a distance of 21 feet, 10 inches. He was 14 inches further than the 20-08 for Orono senior Ethan Riley.

Donahue placed in the top four in both the 100 and 200. In the shorter of the two sprints he came third in a time of 11.61 seconds. Donahue was fourth in the 200 at 24.27 seconds.

Knapp finished third in the 400 standings with a time of 55.47 seconds.

Bryant scored points in both hurdle events. He was fourth in the 110-meter hurdle finals at 17.32 seconds. Bryant came in fifth in the 300 hurdles at 46.32 seconds.

Pony senior Jaxson Zimmerman had a fourth-place throw in the shot put at 42-07.

Smith finished fifth in both the long and triple jumps at respective distances of 19-00.50 and 37-03.

The Dexter boys ended the day seventh in the standings with a score of 32.33 points. 

Tiger junior Damiair Miller won the triple jump by landing a distance of 41-03. He was more than nine inches beyond the 40-05.50 for runner-up Orono senior Nathan Culina.

Miller ran the third leg of the second-place 4×100 relay team as junior Bryce Cooper, sophomore Bodhi Langlias, Miller and sophomore Tristan Hopkins-Watrous had a time of 47.43 seconds.

Miller tied for second in the high jump as he and Bangor Christian sophomore Alden Stutheit both cleared the bar at 5-04.

Cooper was part of a three-way tie for third place on jumps in the high jump as he, Riley and Culina all got over the bar at 5-04.

Dexter junior Brady Jerome was fifth in the shot put at 40-01.

Hopkins-Watrous added a point in the 200 with his time of 25.28 seconds.

Piscataquis Community High School finished 13th with eight points.

Pirate junior Noah Kain recorded all eight points in the delayed javelin competition. Kain’s throw of 145-01 was good for second place.

Coming in 14th were the Penquis Valley High School boys with six points.

Patriot junior Jareth Williams scored the half dozen points between the 100 and 200. He placed fourth in the 100 at 11.62 seconds and finished fifth in the 200 at 24.35 points.

In the girls meet, Dexter led the region by coming in sixth among a field of 15 point-scoring schools with 39 points.

The Tigers’ 4×100 relay was the fastest of the competition. Freshmen Jemma Bullock and Asani Miller, junior Jazmin Channon and sophomore Brookelin Dorman together ran a time of 53.68 seconds, edging the 53.79 seconds for Bucksport High School.

Senior Sunny Bache won the high jump, on jumps, at a height of 4-09.

Dorman came in second in the triple jump with her distance of 32-08. She was also fifth in the 100 at exactly 14 seconds.

Dexter had fourth to sixth place in the 100-meter finals. Channon finished fourth at 13.82 seconds and in sixth place was Bullock at 14.12 seconds. 

Channon came in fifth in the long jump at 15 feet and sixth in the 200 at 29.19 seconds.

Freshman Ella McClintock-Hatch placed sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:40.86.

The Foxcroft Academy girls picked 38 points to come in seventh.

Pony sophomore Jasmine Hall won the shot put. She had a top throw of 31-11, nearly two feet more than the 29-10.25 for runner-up senior Natalia Simpson of Bucksport.

Hall was also fourth in the discus at 79-05.

Senior Alexis Heretakis finished second in both the 100 and 200. Heretakis’ respective runner-up times were 13.62 and 28.21 seconds.

She anchored the fourth-place 4×400 relay as sophomores Marion Deitz and Violet Chai, senior Nina Huber and Heretakis combined for a time of 4:48.42. 

Heretakis also had a fourth-place long jump distance at 15-08.

The girls from PCHS tied Bangor Christian for eight place with 23 points apiece.

Pirate senior Sadie Kelley won the 1,600 racewalk in a time of 9:05.88. Kelley was well ahead of the 9:39.48 for second-place finisher Bucksport senior Abigail Farricker.

Freshman Ava Edes finished second in the high jump as she cleared a height of 4-09.

PCHS’ 4×400 relay came in fifth as Edes, sophomore Olivia Goodwin, junior Molly Goodwin and junior Judith Jannsen combined for a time of 4:48.42.

Jannsen placed fifth in the triple jump at 30-11.75.

Olivia Goodwin had a sixth-place throw in the javelin at 88-10.

A score of 10 points put the Penquis girls in 11th place.

Patriot junior Brooklyn Decker came in third in the discus with her throw of 80 feet. Decker was also fourth in the shot put at a distance of 28-05.50.
