Center Theatre offering summer camp in Milo

MILO — The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts announced that after a successful fundraising effort it will be offering a summer drama camp in Milo. The dates for the camp will be June 23 through July 3 and once again camp will be held at the United Methodist Church, culminating with a performance at the Milo Town Hall.

The theatre had earlier opened registration for camps in Dover-Foxcroft, Monson and Greenville, but had been unsure if it could offer a camp in Milo. According to Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre executive director, plans were uncertain regarding the Milo camp following cuts to the federal AmeriCorps Vista program.

“What we heard back in January was that the Vista program would basically be non-existent this summer,” Myers said. “We relied on AmeriCorps to help with staffing for our camps and without that program we had to reduce the number of camps and the maximum number of kids in each camp.”

DRAMA CAMP — Campers in the 2024 Center Theatre Children’s Summer Drama Camp work on projects during the camp in Milo. Registration is now open for the 2025 Milo camp.

The theatre began fundraising to ensure that the four existing camps could continue and then to try to raise money for the camp in Milo.

“We were very lucky to receive a grant from the Onion Foundation to support our summer camps this year,” Myers said. “We also received a generous donation from Three Rivers Kiwanis that got us over our goal. After we received the good news from Kiwanis, we opened registration the next day.”

The Center Theatre’s Summer Drama Camps are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis and operate on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is limited to 16 kids. Milo campers will receive a nutritious lunch each day from the summer meal program offered through the local school district. The theatre will provide snacks and water throughout the day.

The camp performance will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 3 at the Milo Town Hall. The performance is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted for future camp programs.

Anyone wishing to register for the camp in Milo or camps in Dover-Foxcroft, Monson or Greenville should visit centertheatre.org/drama-camps or call 207-564-8943.
