Restore focus and accountability in SAD 46

To The Editor;

Strong schools are the foundation of a strong community. I have worked for SAD 46 for the past 43 years and have worked with many different school boards over that time. As a resident of SAD 46, I am deeply concerned about the direction our school board has taken under the influence of two members whose actions have consistently undermined collaboration, transparency and progress.

Over the past several months, our board has been mired in conflict and dysfunction. Instead of working together to address the real challenges facing our district — like staffing shortages, student achievement and budget constraints — we’ve seen meetings dominated by personal agendas and political posturing. This has created a toxic environment that distracts from the needs of our students and educators. 

The upcoming recall election on June 10 is an opportunity to restore focus and accountability to our school board. I urge voters to support the recall with a yes vote so that we can move forward with leadership that puts students first and works constructively for the good of our schools. Be aware that those involved will attempt to frame this as a political issue (Republican vs. Democrat, conservative vs. liberal). It is not! I’ve been a registered independent my entire adult life and to me this is about principle, not politics. 

Let’s bring our attention back to where it belongs: the success and well-being of every student in SAD 46.
