Piscataquis Democrats deliver to Piscataquis Regional Food Center
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis County Democrats continue their mission of supporting those that struggle with food insecurity. At the recent Spring Democratic Fundraiser, donations were made to benefit the Piscataquis Regional Food Center. With these funds a $500 check was presented to PRFC Executive Director Kelly Sirimoglu plus an abundance of needed food items.
Our help is critical even more now as the PRFC is experiencing drastic cuts implemented by the present administration. The emergency food assistance paid by the USDA and free to food cupboards was cut by 25 percent. Also, FEMA’s emergency food and shelter funds are now frozen that helped agencies in our area like PRFC. Agencies are owed approximately $35,000. To add to these cuts, Maine previously received $1.5 million to divide among the counties which allowed food cupboards and schools to buy local produce — that is now gone! These funds not only helped food cupboards but local farmers as well.

The PRFC serves 500 households a month with approximately 150 shoppers a week. The fastest growing number is children and this is reflected in a 2025 food insecurity study that found that 25 percent of Piscataquis County children are food insecure. That is brutal!
Cuts to SNAP as well as proposed cuts to Medicaid make this situation even more dire. To help with the loss of revenue, Sirimoglu and her staff willingly reduced their hours of work. Piscataquis County is very fortunate to have such a caring staff at PRFC.
