
Penquis’ Decker wins shot put
HAMPDEN — Brooklyn Decker of Penquis Valley High School earned top honors in the shot put at a May 22 Penobscot Valley Conference track meet at Hampden Academy, helping the Patriots score 37 points to finish fifth among a field of six teams.
Decker’s top throw measured 30 feet, 9.5 inches to give her first place in the shot put, 2.5 feet more than the throw of 28-03.25 for runner-up Addi Kenney of Hermon High School.
Decker also finished third in the discus with her throw of 81-01. A distance of 80-07 put Decker fourth in the javelin standings as she accounted for 20 of the 37 Penquis points.
Kayla Hatt came in third in the 1,600 with her time of 6 minutes, 10.73 seconds.
In the 400 Ashley Ladd and Ava Shoopman were fourth and fifth with respective times of 1:09.39 and 1:12.92.
Amara Driscoll placed fifth in both the javelin and discus at 80-02 and 70-10.
Kalea Gahgan was sixth in the shot put at 25-01.50.
The Penquis boys picked up 23.5 points to come in sixth among six schools.
Lucas Chai finished as the triple jump runner-up with his leap measuring 37-04. He also came in fifth in the long jump at 17-05.
Jareth Williams placed third in the 100 and 200 at 12.10 seconds and 24.65 seconds.
Ethan Lewis was sixth in the 400 in 60.10 seconds.
Sean Chenckin tied for sixth in the long jump as he and Dylan Yeo of Hermon both jumped 16-05.
